How do the rankings work on ATW?

My site has great placement on Google and the other major search engines that feed off it it - Yahoo, AOL, etc. Although my site is listed in Alltheweb and has numerous links within the ATW directory, I have no placement in ATW for the same keywords where my site is appearing on Google's first page. I've tried to do some preliminary surfing on the subject, but can't seem to find a definitive answer. Anyone have any thoughts? I like the ATW search engine and believe that if it is not already one of the major players then it will be in the near future. Thanks.

So you are not ranking well, or not in their database at all? I have a client or two who fast just will not index for whatever reason. Clean code, no spamming, no profanity.

It's a mystery to me as well.

If you get ranked on INK and FAST - you will get ranked on Google, provided you follow the rules of Google.

If you concentrate on getting ranked on Google - then you may not get ranked elsewhere ;)

My experience differs from that. We tend to design sites to be as user-friendly as possible, but in terms of SEO, I'm most familiar with what Google likes and doesn't like in the design, layout, content, etc.

And our clients' sites are doing as well in AlltheWeb's listings, often better, than they are in Google. I've always believed that if you pay attention to the basics of SEO and not worry too much about the details that one SE prefers over another, you can do well in all SEs.

Reiser, what area are you concentrating on for Google ranking: anchortext, PR, onpage factors?
My experience is that a well balanced site, with good links, targeted anchortext and good onpage factors never fails to rank in ATW.
With Google however it's possible to bring a blank page on top with just anchortext.

Probably anchor text. I'm not very fluent in HTML. I do agree that it's easy to achieve high Google rankings with nothing more than a meta title tag. What do you mean by PR? Page rank? I do have some placement on ATW but not the level that I should have in comparison to my Google rankings.

Your problem is probably that your site is on the 2/3rds of the worlds web servers that are banned..

That is old, completely outdated infromation. Plus it had been false information in the first place.
That statement had made the rounds back then, and was as quickly denounced as it had been made.
To make it quite clear: ATW never banned 2/3rds of the worlds web servers.

heini, then how do you explain so many domains being cut from their results?

i have a domain that ATW knows about, they have my backlink information but they will NOT list my website either in a search of the keywords or in a search for the actual domain...

I would be interested to see if you have any factual data that suggests that article was wrong...

One site not getting included is hardly any proof for a theory stating that 2/3 of the web is banned.
ATW has the second largest index out there.

As to your site: all engines have sites they don't index for a variety of reasons. A ban is only one of the possible reasons, and in most cases not the most likely cause.
Of course I have no idea why your site doesn't get included, you will know better. Do you have any reason to assume a ban of your site?

I think alltheweb and google have some sort of weird deal. Today I moved down in Google the same number of places as I moved up in ATW.

I hope you folks are still watching this thread because I too, am mystified. One of my sites, (200k+ pages) ranks well w/Google, good PR, lots of incoming text links already indexed by G. Googlebot comes by every single day, with a big bump every third day. ATW shows 32k links to the site, when I do an "allinurl", but when I search for www.widgets.com or widgets.com, I get absolutely nothing. I mention the number of pages because IMO the alerge scale lets me get a better grasp of how much G has picked up. (Admin; please edit if I'm getting too detailed here).

Why won't ATW index the URL (no porn, no spam).

For clarification: the allinurl command is Google syntax, not sure if you really used that command or the ATW syntax.
In fact the best thing to do is just type your url in the searchbox, it gives you all info on the status of your site in their index.

Hmm, that looks a little off, doesn't it? 32K links is a bit much - the syntax must be wrong as heini says.

I have a software package, and one of its functions is to critique a website for specific search engines. I will perform a test for my website for Alltheweb and post the results on the forum.

Reiser, what I would do is the following:
- type in your url www.yoursite.com in the ATW searchbox. Look at the results: How many pages indexed, how many links from other sites indexed
Now you know where you are at.
Next
- Identify yur target keywords, under which you want ranking and see what the competition does
- Compare your titles with their titles
- See where on your pages the keywords appear, and where on their pages
Experiment. Put up some pages which you use for testing.
I bet this will teach you more than any software could.

ATW DB and consequent results for me have been stale for about 6? weeks now. I guess since the buy out, I think they are concentrating on other things.

Pre that, fantastic nearly on par with G. Not much traffic though
