Accessibility of JavaScript Encoding

Are the blind able to access mailto links that have been JavaScript encoded

Can anyone tell me whether the various screen readers used by the visually impaired are able to use or access mailto links that have been created using JavaScript encoding (i.e. such as the JavaScript encoding provided by the Smarty template system often used by PHP programmers).

I will be thankful for your help.

I've heard that they don't, but that is completely anectodal. I need to do a bit of research.
