[news.ycombinator.com...]

Including their DNS server @1.1.1.1

Last I looked they powered around 7 million websites, and whatever else they have going along with DNS.

At the moment it looks like it's been down at least 15 minutes though there's signs that it's getting back up now.

Looks like may be resolved. Apparently a tech issue not a hack.

Cloudflare System Status

Monitoring - A fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results.

Update - This afternoon we saw an outage across some parts of our network. It was not as a result of an attack. It appears a router on our global backbone announced bad routes and caused some portions of the network to not be available. We believe we have addressed the root cause and are monitoring systems for stability now.

Zoinks, we were pausing and unpausing PPC for a few hours! For our larger clients, you can burn through ~$25k in less than an hour, so if their website is down hard, ouch,

Hello,

I was right in the middle of an experimentation at one of my server, when the light turned Off. I thought I messed things up, then when I saw all my sites (different servers) were unreachable too, honestly, I have to recognize, I panicked :) I couldn't figure what was wrong, because I could still access them using SSH. Then my second reflex was to come here, and saw the message from "brotherhood of LAN".

I use CF only for its DNS. I used to run my own DNS, but it was so much convenient that I switched to CF. Right now, I am not considering changing, I know crap happens.

Yes apparently the wisdom is to use several services and a short TTL, that's the best practice. Seems like the best of the best will never fulfil your DNS resolution and having multiple providers sorts that.
