I was searching for site name in Google and foing that a company has several pages claiming to be my site. If a user clicks through the site tries to install software on the users machine.

lets say for example my site is widgets.com

if I search for widgets I get a listing in the serps. buy foo from widgets.com

If a user clicks through they are not taken to my site they are taken to their site.

In terms of the domain (widgets.com) the word widgets is a non generil word made up from 2 words and one number.

The srvice they offer is the same as mines. They are misleading users into beliving they are using my service. Their service is very poor, and the software is pretty scummy. I woudl hate users to think I was connected to them.

Any ideas?

Mack.

Sounds like you may have scumware on your computer. My kids had something like this happen on their computer about a month ago, ran Adaware and it took care of it.

No it's someone optimizing a page to appear when a user searches for my site title on google.

I wish it was scummware :)

I don't know if its scumware but who ever it is is scum. Try to get as much information about them as possible like track their IP address, who is the host, send them an email requesting that they stop the false and misleading advertising immediately. You could also notified the host at the same time, however that is up to you. If you don't receive a response to the problem from the site owner then diffently notify the host. As pissed off as you might be remember keep your cool.

Are you in the US? You can send a C&D for using your trademarked name, asking them to remove it from their site immediately, but it will take a short while for it to get out of the serps. If they don't respond, you can take it up with the hosting company.

Wow.

You must have a popular/frequent site name or url to be getting this kind of attention...

What's the site name?
