Many here swear by pair, others like westhost (the hosts here) - me, I've been with he.net for a good few years, but they surely ain't newbie friendly.
Whatever, use the site search here and you'll find many a thread on the subject. Eventually.
I've just signed up for a slightly upgraded box. Too soon to tell how accommodating they are for non-server experts. So far, so good. I'll definitely be testing that capability, though! Gotta love telnetting & shell scripts... feels like you have fallen into a computer time warp.
Sith, I think its difficult to use the word 'friendly' and 'dedicated server company' in the same sentence. ;)
There are many companies out there, but I would look for one that has been around awhile, has plenty of bandwidth, and reasonable bandwidth rates over the base.
I've been using dedicated dell servers, but there is nothing 'friendly' about them. After finding a company, I would also suggest you ask around to find somebody that has unix system adminstration experience to help you set things up. (if you look hard, you can find some good ones for about $50/hr).
The reason for not having a 'newbie' setting things up, is most dedicated server companies give you a box and pipe to the internet. If you don't have all the necessary firewalls, server, mail server security, latest patches, and 'wrappers' all over it - you may find that you are serving up 'hoola girls from Amsterdam' instead of your own web pages.
