You sign the contract and collect a downpayment from them -- no problem. Then you give them your run-down of things you need from them (ideas for the domain name, content for each of the pages, photos, possible keywords, a list of competitors, etc.) and send them on their way.
A day goes by, then a week, then two weeks -- no word.
So, you give them a call to find out what's going on. "Oh, I've been really busy, and haven't had time to get to that stuff yet.".
If you're lucky, this phone call will spark them to get moving. If not, the process repeats itself over, and over, and over again.
So, here's my question:
Short of just nagging them every two weeks, what do y'all do to try and make sure the projects get done in a reasonable amount of time?
Do you offer incentives in the contract? Penalties? Does the contract become void after x days?
This isn't a HUGE problem, but it does happen for us. In fact, we have one client that has been signed for over a year, and still hasn't given us the content for their site!
I'm looking for ways to help "incent" our clients to uphold their end of the bargin in a timely fashion...
