word 'sales' in email causeing it to be blocked

Recently a customer of ours complained that he had not been able to read our email due to the fact that the email contained the word 'sales' and thus outlook (I do not recall if it was outlook or outlook express) blocked the email, considering it to be spam.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is it wide spread enough that it is something that I should be concerned about, or do you think that this is a problem that will continue to grow?

I am surprised that Outlook did this, as surely it would be a filter set by the user or alternatively some ISP solution.

I am actualy an old user (weblamer) but the machine I normally use died, and I forgot my password, and when i tried to retreive my password, webmasterworld said the user name did not exist. <shrug>

I am afraid i can not shed any more light on the situation that I have already stated. I did not know outlook possesed such a filter, and it seems to me that the word 'sales' was something this guy set up on his own.

However if anyone else has experienced this, i would love to hear it.

It's not the word 'sales' that it blocks. It blocks any mail from 'sales@...'.

This is easily overcome by changing your address, try help@, services@ or info@.

It is set in newer versions of Outlook Express (2002) by selected a 'Block spam' option.

Thanks, for the link, gsx. I was about to send out a mailing for a client from [e-mail]. Guess I need to re-think that.

Also noticed one of the triggers is "Body contains check or money order." Sounds a little extreme. When someone asks how we accept payment for our vacation homes, the reply is "check or money order." So Microsoft will block those as spam.

That's not agressive. That's just plain stupid. Obviously, nobody in the Outlook development team has ever bought anything online yet.
