Has anyone ever sold a Temporary/Promo Website?

For example: If you were selling your house or car and because you're a webmaster why not set up a website for your 1998HondaAccord.com (example only) and simply place a classified ad in your local newspaper to sell the vehicle...

Here's the idea: Offer Promo Websites to individuals or even businesses (of course a biz should have a site already) to sell their house, car or whatever.... And Place a Time limit of the site..... Not sure of a price but under $70...

I have a friend that owns a classified newspaper who receives more than 150,000 readers/week which inspired this idea....

Of course you would have predesigned templates to plug and play and they would have their own domain name which can be reused....

Where are the holes?

people are only willing to travel so far to find a used car. Out of 10,000 that see your site, only 50 might be willing to travel to the car's location.

Ship-able products and services would be more suited to this I think.

I am sure some people will do it. Offer it and I bet some people would be willing.

If you could get some kind of generic domain name you could possibly do this a lot cheaper by selling subdomains. Then you only need to buy one domain name and a hosting package with unlimited subdomains/FTP accounts (up to your server space limit). Then you could also upload the template and suchlike for each one when you sell it. I'm not sure what kind of domain name would work or how easy it would be to get a suitable one. Something like 1998HondaAccord.forsale.com or 1998HondaAccord.buyitnow.com possibly? Those are totally made up but I can imagine lots of simple names like that would already be gone. However you wouldn't need to wrory about the subdomain part already being sold, your customers could have pretty much anything they like in there.

The downsides I see straight away: it would all be on your hosting space, so you would need to monitor content, and the longer url would be harder to remember than a straight domain name (hence the need for a simple domain to start with). It does lose a certain amount of originality having cookie cutter urls instead of unique domain names.

I've never seen this before and plus it's a double wammie....

Offer to use their contact phone number as the domain name such as www.606-555-1212.com....

This gives them an opportunity to have a unique domain name and promote the contact number at the same time....

The privacy issue shouldn't be a problem because the sites are only temporary plus I'll include that $8.95 charge in intitial price....
