What are you seeing out there?

My experience in SEO is 70% in-house, enterprise SEO and about 30% agency/consultant. To make a sweeping generalisation, the C-suite does not pay sufficient attention to SEO.

Is that because they don't care about profits? Clearly not, but why would in-house SEOs feel that way at times?

The C-suite struggles to understand the specifics, and to connect that SEO work with the performance and thereby the profit opportunities.

It's been getting better, but there's a big opportunity to explain that connection and benefits in a corporate manner, imho.

They like the instant gratification of paid ads, so PPC budgets can be insanely higher than SEO budgets.

Someone needs a flow chart to graphically point out how to improve their ROI.

I've heard over and over in presentations by in-house folks, that exec's don't understand it and can't directly track the benefits. They rarely line up with the value. "Oh you tweaked 5000 titles and we get 20k more page views a month? I can't see that that."

I'd be happy if they asked for an internal SEO presentation once a quarter, so everyone down the line can see it has C-suite visibility, thus gets adequate funding.

Pretty shortsighted
Ad prices are climbing, inflaltion reigns in.
They like the instant gratification of paid ads, so PPC budgets can be insanely higher than SEO budgets.
