I'm getting out of the hosting business to concentrate on webdesign only.
I have around 40 clients, mostly small business sites, with a couple of larger sites.
Any advice on how I would go about selling my hosting portfolio?

i would suggest looking for similar-sized SMB hosting businesses that are looking to expand.
a local or small regional ISP might be another option to explore.

Hopefully OK to share a link. Depending on your price point, have a look at lowendtalk.com, as there's lots of providers on there and I've seen numerous instances of people buying up small hosting companies. The forum is mainly colocrossing based providers but there are a number of others.

Hello,
+1 with lowendtalk.com . However, be prepared. This forum, is fun, useful, but can also be rough and rude.

Lowendtalk is primarily VPS-oriented, and this sounds more like a shared hosting business. I'd suggest WebHostingTalk instead, they have a dedicated forum called "Web Hosting Companies And Clients For Sale or Purchase".
However, if these are mostly local clients, I would also take the local route first, see if there are any similar businesses interested in a takeover.

Depending on your area/location, likely there are other companies doing the same as you: small market, dedicated clients. You would probably have more interest among that group to expand their own hosting with a known clientele.
