comScore's latest news stats indicate that smartphone apps are accounting for as much as 50% of all U.S. digital media time spent online.

No doubt about it, apps are a great way to increase usage in certain sectors, such as social media. But, they also provide "destinations" for other services. If you're a brand you really ought to have some kind of app to amplify the brand's exposure, and to make it easier for consumers to connect. It doesn't work in all instances, but there are many opportunities.

Chances are when you want to know what’s happening around the world, or in pop culture, or in your friends’ lives, your first move is to reach into your pocket and open one of the number of different social apps on your phone. And unless you already happen to be sitting at a computer, a smartphone app is probably your first option when you decide to listen to music, get directions to a destination, check the weather or catch up on email. While I'm a very small fish & not the level of player that would benefit from offering an app of my own, I have gone to diligent lengths to make sure my pages are supporting most of the popular social apps and the features they offer.

This includes utilizing the specific meta tags for content/image presentation and whitelisting their UAs and IP ranges.

I've also redesigned several of my pages for better symetery when accessed with a couple of the mobile apps.
