With ad blocking appearing to become more likely, and the challenge to monetise from mobile, has the ad-supported products and services reached a plateau? Will we see the introduction of more sponsored, or subscription-based products and service? If we do, how will publishers continue to thrive?

Here are some recent threads indicating more moves to block mobile, or ad-supported browsing. On their own, they don't add up, but if you add them together...

How are AdSense Publishers, app developers, and advertisers to change and develop how they do business going forward. Obviously, Google is vulnerable in all this, too, unless it can remain agile in how it earns its living. I'm sure it will, but Google is not really the topic, it's about those that either earn their living from some form of ad-supported service, or are advertisers wanting to get to users, and whether ad-supported has plateaued.

Ad blocking can be worked around: in nothing else by embedding the acad in the HTML of the page. There are also legal issues with network level ad blocking.

The thread on mobile traffic and ads suggests it depends on your niche.

I hope ads do not disappear, because the most likely replacement is advertorial.

>advertorial.
We've seen that become commonplace in some sectors, and it's another form of sponsorship.

If you're and advertiser you don't want your ads blocked, and if you're a publisher, or you make money from ads, perhaps from your app, where is the alternative? I'm suggesting sponsored, or subscriptions. For example, if you've got a great app, why not make an annual charge?

It would be nice if the costs just went up to compensate. If there are going to be less impressions around because of ad blocking then demand should go up.
