the proper DBA for owning websites

Do I need one DBA, or several?

I'm currently in the process of putting together a ppc site. I eventually want to have two or three, all different topics and subject matter.

Can I have one DBA for all of them, or do I need one for each site. I'm unsure as to how all of that works.

Q1 - Are you planning to have a different PPC account for each of the sites, or will you share the account across the sites?

Q2 - Do you have an accountant? What does s/he recommend?

I would look into an S-Corp or LLC. Both of those, if properly done, will help shield your personal assets in the event of a lawsuit. There is a cost to set up, but, as I understand it, LLCs are a lot easier to do than the old S-Corps.

LLC = Limited Liability Corporation.

If I'm not mistaken, A DBA is still a sole Propietership which leaves you open to lawsuits against you personally.

ie - someone comes to your site and is offended by something there and sues you for your house and bank accounts -or- someone posts something health related - ie drink vinegar for colds, the person tries it, gets sick and sues. The list is endless. Just look at how many pages of lawyers are in your telephone book.

Well, right now I plan to focus on just one site for at least a year. Creating more sites is something that might happen way on down the road depending on the success of the first site.

So for now I just want to start small with one site, one account. But I'd like to be prepared to expand with more if I decide to without having to change things around or set up different accounts.

If you're doing DBAs, then it's most likely that you're doing things as a a Sole Proprietor (as cmendla mentioned), in which case you'll be using your SSN for tax/identification purposes. So I see little sense in setting up a new DBA just for PPC purposes.

When you get down the road, then you can worry if there is any sense in creating a new DBA. I wouldn't spend any time worrying about it now.
