Corporate Search Engine Externally and Internally

Currently we use Verity as our searching software for external and internal sites. We have found that it is not cost effective nor a very good tool...

does anyone have any other solutions that arent going to cripple our budget?

This is a concern I currently have as well -- though we don't use Verity. I've been looking into the Google Search Appliance [google.com] but I haven't found many independent reviews which gave me much insight into the matter. I posted on here about a month or two ago but never received any feedback about them.

Here's a bit from Google about the Search Appliance Mini (the one I am considering):

The Mini comes in multiple versions. The most affordable Mini searches up to 50,000 documents for $2,990 – including all hardware, software and two years of support. Additional versions search up to 100,000, 200,000 or 300,000 documents. Since upgrading is easy, the Mini is great for growing organizations.
