Ive just started a web design site and wondering how you guys get paid?..my guess is credit card through something like pay pal?....well what do you do when your underage and cant get a credit card?.
Im 17 and just started a site (on profile) and i dont have much experience with website design, only graphic design. So are there any other ways to get paid other than credit card?
You find that if you do local business (usually a staple of a web design startup) you will find check is more prevalent. You can get people to mail checks to you. Since you are really starting out at ground zero you may want to stay away from credit cards initially (charge backs and stuff like that). Paypal might be a nice way to start with credit cards. I think you will find this will be a moot question. Most business that will deal with you will probably use check.
Some hosts offer merchant accounts and e-commerce for a small fee. I can't think of any off hand but your host probably will. This would probably be the easiest credit card solution.

You might not want so many prices on your site. I find you get more oppertunity to sell if you make them contact you for prices. Maybe some general prices but not lists.

I find PayPal extremely handy, not only for credit card payments, but I've also had icheck payments, which just take a few days extra for the customer's check to clear the bank. With some, they remit within a few minutes of getting billed through PayPal, which also provides an additional record of terms and specifics, even though it's technically informal.
I like it since once the funds are in, the $ is yours, just waiting for transfer into your own account, so it eliminates waiting for mailed checks and work can start immediately - which should always start AFTER getting payment.

Well first of all im in New Zealand, and there isnt too much payment systems offered over here, for now im working locally mostly, so i think ill just deal with them personally, with checks or cash.
Any age can sign up for Paypal, but you do need a credit card to make any transactions, so until I turn 18, ill go checks.
Also, thanks for the tips korkus, ill keep them in mind.

When it comes down to it, a CC will be your best friend. My guess is that in NZ, you will have to be 18 to use one, and that is before all the red tape that Pay Pal or otherwise will impose
So i cant withdrawn anything till im 18?..lol, my millions and millions of profits will be sitting there :P

You just click on the tab marked "Withdraw Funds," make a few entries, and it's transferred into your bank account. It's supposed to take 3 to 5 days, it could be longer; it all depends on the clearing house. Some people have had delays, it's wise to withdraw the funds right away, leaving just a little in case you have to pay something out. You're notified by email as soon as payments are deposited into your PayPal account. "You've got cash!"
The problem with PayPal is that Non PayPal members (customers) have to sign up through PayPal first. If they are members many did not understand how to fund their account or pay me via their own account. Crazy!
I used to be pro PayPal, but it was more work then it was worth in guiding my non PayPal using clients.
Using Authorize.net as my merchant has made my life easy, increased sales and no more having to explain PayPal to customers.
Great topic though - seems PayPal would be a perfect solution for business owners who have low credit card use. Worth your money.
