Promoting a musician

Hi all,

I'm looking for creative, innovative ways to promote a musician.
The main goal is to get gigs at venues.

The traditional way of recording albums (+/- 1000 copies) and sending them out to potential clients requires a big investment every time.

So except having your own website and a presence on Myspace/YouTube, any other creative ways to promote this artist?

Reach out to local print and radio media and clubs, offering samples that can be linked to from their website.

Thanks for the suggestion.

The artist gets lots of attention from local media, but sending out an newsletter with links to audio/video samples is a good idea.

Check out last.fm, and allow a few tracks for streaming and offer one or two music downloads to potential listeners.
