Real Time Blacklists (The RBL)

Ya know, I'm gettin' pretty fed up with the damn RBLs, I really am. We have a few clients that utilize our mail servers regularly throughout the day. We have applications in place that are sending out email notifications to customers and administrators. We rely heavily on email communication to get the job done.

These past few months have been a bear dealing with the RBLs. Between SBCGlobal.net and MSN, we're probably seeing rejected mail notices from about 15-20% of our user base, that is not good. This last month has really made me look hard at my options for managing email moving forward and it looks like I'm going to offload it. The major ISPs have made it very difficult and expensive to get mail into their users mailboxes. I'm about done with it!

And then you get users who are too damn lazy to click the Unsubscribe button but they'll click the Report as Spam button. Go figure...

MSN? We have had no problems with them.

For us, the worst is AOL and those email accounts that require you to "register" before the sender will accept your reply.

This is what to look for...

I see SORBS is now blocking a bunch of Earthlink IP's..

We're in the process now of going through each and every zone file and making modifications where necessary. I have some new people on board who are a bit more savvy in this area and they've found a few things that may help in our delivery procedures, we'll see. You definitely want to have your SPF and SenderID taken care of, those are givens.
