I've read various books on "guerrilla marketing": aggressive, imaginative unconventional methods of promotion on a low budget. Some of the techniques can be applied to marketing for a web design company, but most literature doesn't address this industry or emerging methods such as viral marketing. I'd like to see how many ideas we can come up with on how to effectively market ourselves to potential web design clients. I'll start things off:

1. Design a website at no cost for a local charitable or nonprofit organization, and inform the local media about it.

2. Develop relationships with businesses related to computers or printing. PC repair people are sometimes asked about website design, a service they usually don't offer. Work out a deal with a local PC repair shop or printer to refer clients to one another (or offer them a referral fee for maximum results).

I recently heard a financial broadcast about web dev
The conclusion and somehow “recipe for success” was “stick to one biz genre” instead of going all over the place
For ex: If you have a done few banks, then focus on that branch of services.

Related to your statement I won’t do an org but will find through biweekly review of your few local town/city halls new biz registration listing (in some instances you can even for a few $ get that online) a new biz in a category you would like dealing with.

Offer it for free and branch out…
