Surface Computing
[microsoft.com...]

MS say within 3-4 years these units will be available for the consumer. They are now making them available commercially.

I want one now!

This thing will give you RSI pretty fast - I had to switch away from normal mouse to trackball to avoid moving my wrists as it started hurting, how possibly can this thing be ergonomic and hand friendly? This stuff is only good to see in SciFi movies.

That said I use right now Microsoft Natural keyboard and it is much better than the old stuff that I used for more than a decade - they sure do good things in Microsoft, but they also invent a lot of rubbish - surface is one of them, joining tablet PC.

I think we've already seen it there. Now its going mainstream. :)

One of the first recipients? Casinos. MS Surface Computing is going to change the entire Casino Industry.

And, on the flip side, its going to change education methods.

Indeed. Just imagine the possibilities for the casino to improve profitability of roulette: the thing will know where all stakes were made and where to stop the ball :)

I remember a WebmasterWorld thread from a few years ago about a similar type of interface. The folks had an online demo showing hand manipulation of stacks of files, visually somewhat similar to Surface. Anybody else remember that or keep a link to it?

Maybe in the US.. in the UK were still trying to pull it into this century :)

Reminds me of the movie Minority Report.

looks cool, a great tool for retail possible the service industry as well. Not sure if this is targeted towards to the home user at all or even a normal business customer. Looks appropriate for specialty applications.
