How many unique visitors does it usually take before a website is worth commercializing?

Sorry, there's no one-size-fits-all answer. It all depends on subject of site, depth of content, type of visitors, source(s) of visitors, market size, number of competitors, potential commercialization pool (e.g., advertisers), etc...

I'll second LifeinAsia's answer.
I have a site that gets 160,000 to over 200,000 visitors a month, and over a million page views a month. But I can't get it to make money, as it's in a cheap niche.

How many balls of string does it take to reach from here to the moon?
