I'm currently developing a new price comparison website for a very specific nice. There are about 5 brands that matter, with each around 30 product models. The prices across web shops that sell those products do not differ that much, but the price difference is just enough to make it interesting for the user. It's kind of a fashion like market, so great bargains are only to be found on last years models (which off course will be listed)
Anyway, what I wonder is would the Brands applaud a site like this, or would they hate it? Or is there an option C?
I ask this, because I would like to get high-rez product images from them for use on the site, and I wonder if it's a good idea to contact them.
Regards,
Ward

Err, yes definitely. Unless you like risking having hordes of lawyers after you?
As for whether they'll like price comparison itself. Well, get permission before you invest too much time designing/implementing the site. Without their permission and cooperation it is hard to see the site getting anywhere.

Even if the 'facts' are clear, if you are going to step on toes and upset people - be sure the lawyers have dotted every i and crossed every t.
There are plenty of sites (some very big ones) that aren't much more than 'price comparison sites'; that's all they do (and often not well) - but there's also plenty of 'winking and nodding', and other such arrangements going on.
