What do you need funding for?

If you request funding for your web design/devel site, what do you need?

I notice lots of people are seeking funds for their online design business. What is it that you need money for? As far as I can see, the only real "expense" is hosting, which you can get for like $9/month now, a $10/year domain, and... that's about it. You could calculate in the time you spend working on the site is time NOT spent working on a salaried/hourly job, so you are losing money, but would you/do you claim that?

I was talking to a guy at the last webmasterworld conference whose company just recieved $6 million in funding to develope their javascript textad service.

My question was, what in the heck do you need that much money for? That's a lot of ads for yet another adsense clone/competitor to sell to break even.

Then I looked at their "management team" page. I guess it costs of lot of money to carry eight high level executives.
