Hi,

Is there anything wrong with me buying a $25 brochure or flyer template, changing it around a lot, customizing it for my client, then charging them $125 for it? Do templates have copyrights?

Thanks!

You should check the source of the template. Most online template sellers have license agreements that you agree to when you download the template that specify what you can do with them.

In general, it seems to me that you are legitimately using the template for what it was supposed to be used for: as a basis for a single website. You are adding value with your customization, so you can charge more than what the template cost you.

However, if you are customizing the template, and then reselling the customization to many different clients, that probably violates the license agreement.
