I have seen some web developers / software houses display logos of different organizations / associations on their website to claim their membership with these organizations.
First of all, please shed some light on the importance of getting membership of such organizations like being a web developer how can it benifit me to be a member of any such organization.
and if it is worth of getting membership from such organizations then please give me links of such organizations in USA and UK.
thanks in advance.
thanks for replies, but i am not asking whether it will give me more work or not by displaying such associations logos but my point was can it protect my rights in such cases where customers creates problems or hold remaining amount of the project and so on..
Also I think it does give a plus point to show a logo of a respected organization of webmasters so that customers can trust you more.. I am curious to know your point of view on this.
thanks
Nope, organizations are probably not going to help with stuff like that. Typically these are business issues between you and client and you will be forced to resolve issues with or without attorneys, courts, etc.
I personally don't know of a single organization that will step in and help you with problem clients or clients that don't pay. You best defense is a good offense. In other words get money up front, release site once final payment has been received etc.
An organization is good for reference information and maybe some credibility depending on the organization, but don't join for that reason. Join to network, develop business, get information, etc.

I think that we webmasters regardless of our races, religions and locations must have a strong organization where we can defend our rights specially in such cases where customers are giving problems... i know there are law firms in USA etc that handles such issues for very small price so what I think is that if we can gather at some platform and can make a community / committee / organization and can talk to some law firm that will help us on the backend ....
Because we can't achieve individually in such cases what we can do together and also once any such organization is on the scene even most of the customers (bad customers only , majority of them are very nice) will not attempt to create problems in payments as they will know that the webmaster is the member of 'organiation ABC' and if the matter taken to this organization , developer can defend his rights effectively...
Also the process of filing a case in organization website must be very easy for webmasters as well as for customers, because sometimes developer is standing on the wrong end , like paypal or 2co has dispute resolving system so we can build a system on our site where webmaster will file his case and it will opened for customer to reply there, if they cant resolve it on the website and if the customer is creating problems then the case will be forwarded to the law firm attached with our organization...
this way, meanwhile the case is resolved with the customer or forwarded to the law firm, webmaster can easily do his other projects / tasks bcz now if you are stuck with some customer you cant give time to other things in parallel and face a lot of tension too.. so the basic idea would be to make our lives easy and set a fair business tradition.
so if this idea make any sense to you guys then who is taking a step forward to make this organization?
I was contacted by the BBB and informed it would cost $400 per year to display their logo. I could probably afford it but it really ticks me off that one's professional value can be purchased. I prefer to build my base on word of mouth.
