Alexa Traffic Ranking Reliability

Does it include all the traffic the site is getting?

Hi, just wondering how reliable the alexa traffic ranking is. Does it include all the traffic the site is getting whether it came from search engines, inbound links, forums, PPC?

It arouses my curiosity because there was a site in my country that has the same google PR(4.0) as my site, alexa traffic ranking(902,000), number of inbound links(55). But it was advertised by a well known television station here that it generates millions of sales selling native food stuffs worldwide.

I think with the above fact that I've mentioned, it is impossible for a site to generate millions of sales .

Alexa traffic ranking comes from the people that use their toolbar. It isn't used by many people and has a lot of Koreans using it so Koraen sites do well.

So, as you can see, you can't trust Alexa on traffic. it starts to be useful when talking sites in the top 1,000

i have one website that has been online for years and the past few months has fallen from about 16000 to 258,000 and all the while the traffic is increasing

I prefer ranking.com to alexa but only slightly, this site has also fallen at ranking.com too

most of my traffic for this site was comimg from goole search until about 6 months ago and most of it is now coming from G's content network (publishers)

Completely unreliable.

As Iguana says, they get their data from web surfers who have the Alexa toolbar installed.

Although of course this can't cover all the traffic that a site gets, it could in theory be a decent way to measure the relative popularity of different sites. But because only a very small proportion of users have the toolbar installed, in practise it's useless.
