Hiring new editors on revenue splits

My info site is getting too large for me to handle alone and i don't really have the cash to hire other editors.

But what if i hired editors on a contract basis where they would get half of all adsense revenue derivnig from their section of the site? It could motivate them to provide great content, solicit links and I'd have a passive income.

I could coach them in optimisation and technical support and they have the design and overall standing of the site laid on.

a one year renewable contract could determine how much work they'd agreed to do and if they were lazy I'd let them go.

Does that sound viable to anyone?

I'm pretty sure that's exactly how about.com grew (although not specifically on AdSense). I know other members here are / have been about.com editors so may be able to confirm; but either way i'd say it was perfectly workable.

A very easy way to implement it technically would be to run a script that cycled the AdSense code 50/50 between yours and the contributing editors'; which means you wouldn't need to have any kind of payment system of your own.

That's good to hear, thanks.

I had about.com in mind, i guess besides adsense there's also the thing of building a portfolio of editorial experience and references that would motivate people.

Great idea to cycle the adsense earnings too, hadn't thought of that.
