Is there money for individual "e-mags"

Is there money to be made in online magazines that are not supported by a larger publishing firm or print magazine counterparts?

Do people still go to the smaller sites? I do sometimes but I need to know if this is something I should re-consider or go for.

I am in the thinking process of my business and am thinking of something to do as far as online. I was thinking of making an e-mag that has affiliate site links as well to make some money by recommending people to buy products (ie.- maxim online, gq, etc.)

We closed ours way back in '96 or '97 because we couldn't comnpete with the well funded and better connected mag sites in our market..

But, it may really depend on the market you are trying to break into and if there is a void that you would be filling..
