And of course you can also design your own "button" graphics for use with a PayPal account, if you find their pastel blue designs a little dull, or would like to change the wording...
(disclaimer: I do not work for PayPal... just know they're easy to use.)
I cancelled my Bank of America CC account and saved myself the $25-30 monthly fees and the hassles of dealing with fraud and chargebacks.
I've converted several of my clients small eCommerce sites to PayPal, and my main site will use PayPal for subscriptions. It's worth the 2% or so for the convenience.
www.guidestar.org works with www.helping.org, which works with United Way. Support is from the AOL Foundation. They provide free, secure, private online processing for tax-deductible donations to 501(c)(3) organizations. They accept Visa or Mastercard. Completely free; AOL even picks up the bank transaction fee and forwards the full amount to the 501(c)(3). You can also arrange to have it deposited to your bank via electronic fund transfer. There's instantaneous confirmation of a donation in realtime, but you have to log into your account to see it. Getting the actual money in your account, or by check if you aren't using EFT, make take 30 days or more.
I have confidence in PayPal and would recommend it. After all - they are the number one payment method on eBay and they are still doing well.
Similar to Merchant Accounts:
clickbank.com : One time fee of $50. No charge per month. No monthly limit on transactions. Up to $250 per single transaction. They take 9% of each transaction which may seem high but they also act as your billing agent and handle customer inquiries.. They also accept all major cards and handle international orders as well.
Similar to them is ibill.com. They have a good rep and have been around a while. They take 15% of transaction with a $100 dollar limit per sale. There is no setup and no monthly fee. Not sure about a monthly cap on dollar amounts.
Similar to Paypal:
propay.com They look interesting. They are more along the lines of what paypal does.. only they DONT require the purchaser to have an account with them. This is a big plus in my book.
c2it.com. This is run by Citibank. Have not heard too much about it.
also to look at...
billpoint.com
moneyzap.com
