Advice Hiring Content Writers

Hi,

I'm considering hiring a content writer or two for my web projects and was wondering how best to set the terms of employment.

Should I hire on a per article basis or monthly salary, and how many 300-500 word articles a month could I expect to receive per content writer?

It relies on what you want your employees do: write technical article or just general stuff. Sometimes it needs three months to write an article, sometimes it just takes half an hour.
In my opinion, creative works can not be measured by quantity.

I think freelancer content writers can do the job if you're not finding suitable content writers locally.

I am actually going for a job interview on friday for a content (and google adwords) writer for a dentistry company. I plan on writing a "general dentistry" article to show them an example of my work, but does anyone have any experience / advice to give?

There are tax issues to consider, I think, if you hire someone as an employee on a monthly/salary basis. You might want to consult an accountant on the implications of hiring an employee.

I hire on a contract basis, work at home type situation. Pay is per article at a negotiated price. Make sure they are happy with the price, and they won't burn out on you. Different quality levels warrant different prices. When negotiating the price, try to think of how long will take to write that article, including research, and compute an hourly rate that seems fair. If the writer can do it at a faster clip with the expected quality, then everyone wins.

right. It all depends. Maybe if you pay them per month still make a contract on how many articles per week they have to deliver. This is what we did.
and it works pretty well for us.
But if you want to compare just monthly salary against per article than i would take per article because you can choose wether to buy it or not. the writer will know this and make a better article.
