Webmaster Needs Sales Person?

Any of you Web guys ever teamed up with a Sales guy?

Here's my current situation. I am an excellent web designer. Not trying to be arrogant; I know my strengths and that's what I'm good at. I've got a great nightife website with a killer domain name that covers a major metro area in Socal. The site has built up a good-sized audience, about 11,000 visits a month. And it's not random traffic, it's a very, very specific demographic that would really appeal to local advertisers.

Here's the problem. Like a lot of "creative-type" people. I'm a HORRIBLE sales-person. Just awful. And I hate doing it. I know in order to make money on the site I need to go out and sell advertising to local businesses. But I am just terrible at sales. So much so that I give it a go for a few days, put in a few calls, send some emails and it becomes such a miserable experience, that I'd rather just plod along through life with my crappy day job because that suddenly seems much, much more appealing.

And I absolutely KNOW that someone that is a natural sales person could make thousands of dollars a month with this site. It's a great site, with a great name and very valuable traffic. It's pathetic that I'm not making any money on it!

So what do I do? If I don't find someone that can help, I can't see me succeeding in this, because I SUCK at sales and I hate to do it and I'll end up not doing it. Has anyone here been in a similar situation? What did you do? I don't want a partner. I don't want to give up control of the thing I've spent thousands of hours of my life over the last 3 years building. But I need to do something. How do you find qualified sales people? What do you pay them? I'm willing to give HALF of all revenue they bring in to that person. Because 1/2 of whatever they bring in is going to be a whole heck of a lot better than ALL of the lousy $50/ month that adsense brings in. If anyone has had a similar experience to mine I'd really be interested in what you did, especially any success stories.

I advertise in the local papers and do OK from it.

11,000 visits a month doesn't sound like enough traffic to interest a professional salesperson.

If you think that you can get the audience up into the 100s of thousands of visits, I'd work on that first.
