Changing your last name back....

How do you tell clients without giving details?

My husband and I are getting a divorce and I plan on changing my name back to my maiden name. How do I tell clients this without making them feel bad, asking for details, etc? I'm at a loss for words.

Just tell them your legal name is now [this,] don't tell them you're getting a divorce. It's none of their business anyway. :-) If they ask, you can say it just felt better on you.

You probably don't need to tell your clients. Change your mailer client FROM address to your old name and always sign off an email with your old name.

If you clients are not 'thick' and respect you and your privacy, they won't even ask - it is obvious that if it was a happy circumstance that caused you to change your name you would tell them about it.

One of my friends has the exact opposite problem of this. She was getting married and wondered that should be introduce herself with the new name to her present clients?

She decided to keep her maiden name for Business Use.

Maybe once you start using your maiden name once again, I suggest you use the same one even if you get into an alliance ever again.

Also, I have studied the trends in the business that people do not realy care how you put your name BUT in case of women, they think women who are single may be able to put more time and concentrate on their work. This syndrome may work in your favor.

Practically speaking, Dont annouce anything, just start signing with your first name for a few months, then slowly switch to your full name ( with maiden family name ).

If possible, try to stick to your first name as yoru identity. It speaks more about yourself and the person you are.
