In looking through past posts about web hosting, westhost.com came up. Is this still a good choice?

I ran across another, acidhost.com, who looks fairly professional. However, in reading the fine print, they accept adult sites in certain programs which makes me kind of leery.

I've had pretty good results with a site at media3.net, although their monthly packages aren't all that cheap.

In particular, I'd like to find a strong bulk hosting deal. I still have a deal with XO (originally 9netave.com) where for a fixed monthly fee I can set up unlimited domains as long as disk usage remains below a specified level. (A one-time IP charge applies for a new domain.) Overall, I have been fairly satisfied with this. Tech support isn't too bad, although higher level questions tend to be more difficult to resolve. Unfortunately, the logging and traffic reporting options aren't good and they don't deviate from standard on that issue. Any new recommendations for hosting, particularly bulk hosting?

pair.com will let you pile as many domains on one account as you like. The also supply extended format logs for each individual domain. I've had about a dozen domains with them for 3 years and never had a problem. They are UNIX with all the bells and whistles (custom htaccess etc.)

While I've only been with them for a few months, I'd like to second the pair.com opinion. The list of standard items included with an account is quite nice. The database access has proven quick and stable. And the few times I've needed to access any tech support has been quick and pleasant. Their support resources (including UseNet newsgroups...) are quite extensive as well.

Their refugee special (no setup fees) was quite a bonus, as well. ;)

If I sound like a commercial, you'd have to understand how much I disliked my last host. *grin*

Pair was always pricey to me. Westhost seems ok - just signed on for another year with them right here. Cservice isn't top notch, but the packages vs price is impossible to beat. Servers are ok - get the better packages and you get a better box.
However, I'm on a quest to find a nonRaq speed solution that is reasonably priced. I thought Tetraweb was it, but they tend to be a bit slow - heck of a package though.

Thanks for the input, everybody. It looks like the pricing kind of depends on the number and size of your sites. Westhost seems to have low per-domain fees. Pair has a higher starting point, but makes it easier to add additional domains at negligible cost.

Any of these guys in an area likely to get hit by power blackouts? Has anyone hosting in California been affected by the problems up to now? That could be bad news... I'm sure the few hours that the server was down would be the time that the SEs would all send their robots for a lengthy spidering session...

pair is in pittsburg and has a backyard full of diesel generator - no fear of blackouts. One other nice thing about pair is that they own all their own gear and facilities. They don't resell - they are the source.

Pretty soon we'll see web hosts advertising on their home page, "NO - We Aren't in California!"

The CA Chamber of Commerce will love it... :)

rogerd, I live in Los Angeles. We won't lose power, but I've been bumped off twice this week and couldn't dial back up because the computers wouldn't respond - two ISPs. This morning was about a half hour, a couple of days ago it was hours and hours.

I agree with Brett Pair does seem a bit pricey, but I must admit the concept of placing numerous domains on one account is very appealing to me!!!!

I currently use three different hosts with four accounts. If I could put them all on one account that would be awesome! Problem is I don't make much from my sites yet so Pair is a little expensive for my tastes. Anyone know another host that offers this type of service?
