Out of the last ten days, I am getting an average of only 5.5 people to my website. I am only trying to go for about 1-2 keywords but they are very telling in what I offer, the way I have my website laid out i only have about 500-600 words on it, my site has been online since July of 2004 if I remember right, it has a google PR of 4 but almost no visitors. Any advice on what I can do here guys?

Probably the best advice would be to get more on-topic links to your site. That should help out a lot with search engine rankings as well as people clicking from other sites to your site.

Spend some time looking around the link development [webmasterworld.com] forum for more ideas on getting links.

Are you saying you only have 500-600 words of content? Must be a typo or a short single page site...

It's not the visitors but what they do that is important. I built a site for someone and it gets between 0 and 10 visitors a day, last financial year it was worth almost Ģ100k to the owner!

sorry about that, I mean on the index page it has only 500-600, the site all together has about 40 pages or so, but not that many words on each of them; 400-500 maybe. I have traded links with other sites tho be it I am starting to slack off a bit on account that I am always busy with content updates for my existing clients, what do you guys think about local advertising? I live in a very small town where only small business owners would prolly even know what a website is.

Itīs a funny world (sometimes).

I have this page sitting on the top of serps (16 million results) but obviously NOBODY is searching for this keyword.

A grand total of 34 visitors last month.

newkid2005,

It's easy enough to find out an estimate for the number of times any keyword is searched for.

If the keyword in fact has a lot of searches perhaps it's time to update your description to something a bit more compelling.

frequent:

Yeah, I thought about that but Adwords comes up with an estimate of 0.7 clicks/day and its unknown to the well known term tracking tool (the name is censored?).

well...

newkid2005,

Well from G$ estimate (no guarantee of accuracy there) we can figure there are about 35 searches on Google per day.

Not a lot, but if the term is important to you, you should be able to get more than 1 visit a day out of those searches with a more targeted and attractive description.

I have tried but am FAR from a pro at SEO, i have thought about paying a third party... has anyone ever tried that and how was your results? The lowest i have seen however was $800-$900 and that was cutting me a break! I dont thave that kind of money because i need visitors in order to get that kind of money :)

If not already, make your website xhtml and css compliant. Then, add this phrase to the bottom of every page on your site, "For some unknown reason we have had a lot of visitors looking for <some celebrity> and <another celebrity> on this site. I guarantee there is no information about <some celebrity> and <another celebrity> on this site."

(I am just kidding about the second one but desperate times...)

what bhartzer said:
"Probably the best advice would be to get more on-topic links to your site. That should help out a lot with search engine rankings as well as people clicking from other sites to your site."

Except I would reverse this:
"Probably the best advice would be to get more on-topic links to your site. This will help out with immediate traffic from people clicking through from a relavant source or sources to your site and THEN eventually add value to your site via the SERPs to help strengthen your listings."

When acquiring links approach it from a business development perspective, first, then SEO benefits...this way you are building immediate value with new relationships...remember, historically and today..links preclude the Search Engines when it comes to generating targeted traffic...then the engines pick up and quantify...
