Our investor is requiring that we get professional liability insurance, and considering what we are developing (web hosting software/service), I agree that we need it.

My first attempt at this ended with one underwriter trying to restrict certain types of hosting (adult, political, and religious), and a quote from another. I have no real basis for knowing if its a good quote or not.

We have since gotten a recommendation for an agent who deals exclusively with the professional side of insurance, and we'll see where that goes.

What are some other people's experience getting professional liability? Why are you getting it, and how do you know what a good quote is?

Also for a new or unproven business what information is really useful to provide in getting a quote and what is just a waste of time?

On a million dollar policy how much will the deductible affect the premium? You'd think that after asking for a quote at three different deductible levels, that I'd be able to get this out of the first agent.

Any help would be appreciated since I have found working with the first agent to be a glacial process.

I'm curious: what was the quote given?
