Cost of Dedicated Hosting?

Those of you familiar with pricing for dedicated hosting/servers, what should I expect to pay monthly for the following?

Features of the robust dedicated environment to include:

•Firewall – monitored for uptime and managed with periodic log file assessments
•Dedicated Load Balancing
•Redundant web servers with failover power supplies and port monitoring.
•Dedicated database server (Decreases latency), includes port monitoring
•Network managed backups
•Daily incremental backup
•Full weekly backup
•Backup retention of (4) weeks
•Aggregate bandwidth – 200 GB per month. Overage rate at $3.95 per GB

Keep in mind that prices will vary greatly from host to hot. That said:

•Firewall – monitored for uptime and managed with periodic log file assessments - I am guesing around $100 per month without anyone checking the log files
•Dedicated Load Balancing (2 web servers @ $200 per month) - $400
•Redundant web servers with failover power supplies and port monitoring. - (2 web servers @ $200 per month) - $400

•Dedicated database server (Decreases latency), includes port monitoring (2 web servers @ $200 per month) - $400

•Network managed backups
•Daily incremental backup
•Full weekly backup
•Backup retention of (4) weeks - all backups ~$100 per month
•Aggregate bandwidth – 200 GB per month. Overage rate at $3.95 per GB

So it looks like you are loooing at around $1500 per month with those specifications.

If you can , at that price you may want to look into getting a T1 line installed locally ahnd buying your own equipment.

We have a T1 being installed now, and were considering buying our own equipment. Except, we are not too savvy in that dept.

We were quoted $4,600 per month by rackspace.

How much bandwidth are you using?
Surely more than 200 GB/month, right?

$1000 give or take.

Personally I run a AMD Ath 2.13 GHz, 1.5 GB of RAM, 2 x 36 GB SCSI in a RAID 0 with an extra 60 GB EIDE drive, full hardware AND application monitoring, 100GB of transfer and weekly ethernet based backup with 4 week retention for just $350 a month.

I have also been with this company a long time and they treat me very well.

Every time I call up and give me customer number they are like "Wow... that is such a low number."

Sometimes being a steady, good customer pays.

I am paying about $2.5k for:
- 7 dual xeon servers, all SCSI, most RAID5, 24 disks, 2TB space
- 20GB RAM total
- remote console, remote reboot
- making 12TB+ transfer a month
- connected to 10+ high quality Gigabit networks (sprint, verio, ...)... they even paid me a while back once one of their networks went down.

There are no redundant power supplies but IMHO you should no rely on that anyways... more often memory goes bad or a server overheats etc...servers _always_ crash sooner or later - my site is setup to automatically reroute traffic if a server goes down. Shop around, there are much better deals out there... they'll also give you 10-30% discounts if you are ready to spend quite a bit.
