"Respectable" number of unique visitors

what is considered good for web stats?

I'd like to ask anyone what is considered as 'good' for a web site in terms of unique visitors? Is 5,000 unique visitors a month considered good, or 10,000, or 20,000. I know more is better but tell me what number is a 'minimum' number to keep one's pulse beating.

I would think that it depends on what your site is about and a host of other things. Can you be more specific?

I host a site for an academic book author who is tickled pink that several dozen people a day stop by his site. And then for my business, I'd be in bad shape if fewer than xx,000 users a day stopped by. It's all a matter of overhead, purpose, expectations, etc.

I made a lot of money with 5K visitors a day in adsense. (Way over the UPS/Fedex min) It all depends on the traffic. I wouold much rather have less visitors that convert better than more that don't.

The owners of a local website were so impressed by hitting the first 1000 visitor mark that it warranted a mention in the town's paper. "Respectable" really is in the eye of the beholder. For me, it means getting at least a few percent more uniques than last week.

I agree with the broad line of the thread dstrob you can only compare with other sites in the same sector as yours.

Good numbers of uniques or page views would be what is required to make a site viable in that sector.

Exactly, everyone hit this one spot on. 300 million for yahoo might suck, while 3,000 for a small town diamond shop might make the owners the happiest people alive.
