Project Management Software

I am now icnreasingly manaing projects where the designers are in place A, the progrmamers in palce b and I am in place C with my management team.

i ahve been using a free project management applciation where all partiescna log on, see where everyone is up to, amnage tasks etc, but it is less than what I need.

Can anyone recommend something they ahve used?

please, not microsoft, must be unix based.

Can I run multiple projects using twike? We usually have 30+ projects going at any one time, I ened everyone to be able to access a calandar that shows what they are working on, where theya re up to, on many different projects.

Yes you can - I've seen a customized version confidently handle 200+ projects across 6 countries. Take it for a test run and see how you like it. It doesn't look like much, but it is powerful and free.

Btw - I don't feel bad about recommending it here because I'm not involved with it in any way and it's free. I trust somebody will let me know if this is not ok.

Microsoft Project works quit well, and with the interface with exchange and outlook you have a very strong tool for project management in an network environment. I have never met a Linux project that matches the functionality, unfortunately

If a hosted solution would work, take a look at Basecamp <snip>. I just started working with it recently and so far am very impressed with what it can do. (No relation to the company.)

You can try 'ToDoList' by AbstractSpoon. I've been using it for a couple of months now and it's pretty smooth. It's a .net application with source code available and uses xml as the main repository. It's free and the developers are very much open to feature suggestion.

Have you looked at phpcollab yet? I think it would meet your needs quite well...

I used to use Basecamp. Its over-simplified but easy to use and you can work around the simplicities for the most part. We just grew way too fast for it and needed out own custom system.

A developer I used had a nice setup with phpCollab. Its forte seems to be file sharing and discussion, though there is Gantt chart functionality built in.

I liked it so much I had the developer do an install on my server, which immediately ran into inexplicable technical issues that nobody could solve. At that time, the original phpCollab developer had quit and the support forum wasn't very active. It now seems that a new group has taken it over and progress is being made. Depending on your needs, its definitely worth a look.

I use dotproject for all of my projects now. I am very satisfied with it. They have a demo on there site I think to check it out.

I had to play with it for half an hour or so before I figured out how it was all structured, but now it seems easy to find anything.
