Making money from a MUD game

Has anyone here done that?

I am wondering if someone here ever owned an online MUD game?
Are they still alive?
I am asking this because i have one with a very good idea almost coded. I just reached the point to finish it soon and to hire a designer for the design, and i started to ask myself - will anybody play it and pay subscription fee? Should i go free and try to get incomes from affiliate programs and adsense?
Hardly for me to say. I will appreciate if someone with experience in this area can share some ideas.

I'm stickying you an addy - you might like to email the owner, Adam Dray, and ask him how his game is doing, his subscription rate, etc.

BTW - welcome to Webmaster World!

Thanks, vkaryl!

Nice place here :-)
I am not so sure if to go on with this Mud, thats why i posted.
I probably won't want to bother the guy for mailing, but thanks for the suggestions. And for sticky-ing :-)

Adam won't mind. He's a PRINCE when it comes to helping newbies of whichever version....

Backstory: in 1993 or so, I was a COMPLETE newbie when it came to online games. I'd been online for a few years, but games are a different thing altogether....

While searching for something to use to "tweak" some gamestuff (for anyone who's interested/knowlegeable, UAF-oriented extensions) I ran across an "ad" needing someone who could write (I can....) - a "game in process" needed writers. I answered the ad and found Firan. The Drays were MORE than nice: they took into their ranks a complete blank-shield (me) when it came to online text-based games, and taught me an untold amount of stuff. And even though I ultimately decided that their vision of the game didn't fit what I was looking for, they were kind about the whole thing when I left.

Really - mail Adam. I'm QUITE sure he'll be helpful. And I'm stickying you again some more info....
