Ok, I now have a content site that gets 900-1000 visitors per day. I have the vertical adsense ads displaying on most of the pages. In the first 3 months of the year, my adsense dollars was $57.

How can I increase my income. I know very little about affiliates so if that is what you recommend, please detail how it works.

There must be a way to generate more income with that kind of traffic.

Thanks for any advice

It's really hard to know, you have to mess with it to get the visitors clicking. Put it at the top of the page and make sure the sites Google is displaying on the ads are somewhat like your site. If the sites are not like your site in some way you might what to take them off or change content arould a bit.

Catch 22!

If you drive traffic though free SERPs you need good content. If you have good content you can't get people to easily leave by clicking on Ads as they want to stay on your site.

For me affiliate relationships work better than AdSense as you can usually agree with the merchants that the affiliate links can be embedded in a way that people don't realize they are Ads and therefore select them.

Google is moving towards making its Ads less and less distinguished. I suspect that in a few years AdSense will be impossible to spot......until then I would look at affiliate relationships.

Check out CJ/BeFree for merchants in your category. They have some of the bigger players who typically pay the best. Some will pay by the click, some will pay by the sale/lead. I tend to find those that pay by the click are a little less profitable, but predictable and stable, those that pay by the sale/lead pay higher, but occasionally drop the ball.

How much you can make will depend upon your category. Less than 2 cents per visitor and you have a problem, over 20 cents per visitor and you should be smiling IMHO :)

I hate it when I am trying to find something, click on a link to get there, only to find that I have been misled.

I may be alone in this but I always believe that the way to keep visitors is not to mislead them.

As I say, I may be wrong.
