Hello,

I've tried searching the forums but no luck. I'm currently developing a downloads site. Currently the server don't have the space to hold all programs so I thought about linking them from the developers websites.

Now what's the right thing to do, is it to allow my visitors just to click "Download" and the download will start from somebody elses server that I've linked. Or should I just link to the developers webpage where the visitor click download.

My aim is to keep visitors on the site, but I don't want to get someone angry stealing their bandwith by direct linking.

Farmer Jones owns an orchard.

His neighbour, Farmer Smith notices how magnificent Farmer Jones' orchard is. "What fabulous fruit, I think I'll set up a road stand outside my farm and sell his beautiful fruit. I wonder if he'll mind?"

=====

I guess they would not mind links to their site (Farmer Smith having a sign on his farm saying "Look at Farmer Jones' magnificent fruit").

It's possible that they may object to anything else.

For example, I don't think Mr. Gates would like you offering XP SP2 even if you had the disk space / bandwidth.
