It was on a free web mail so I contacted the web mail provider.
Is there anyone else I could report something like this to? Normally, I just ignore weird emails but this one was particularly creepy.
At the end of the day a threat is a threat.
Report it to your local Police with as much info as you can, copies of e-mails with headers (to help trace senders pc) etc
I'd also check their IP address, if they in another state or country I'd not worry too much but if they're local then that's different.
This sort of thing makes me glad I registered most of my sites via proxy.
Good luck, stay safe.
Most of the time, these are nut cases, who just want some attention. The worst thing you can do is to respond to them.
If they start calling you 'tell them they got the wrong number', and then call the authorities.
If the originator is closer, it's worth while making a complaint. You may find a complaint to their ISP will get the account terminated but, depending on the content, reporting it to the police may be more appropriate.
If you can't fathom the email headers, the moderators might not mind too much if you post them and someone will probably help. You should XXXX anything that overtly identifies you or the sender (like email addresses).
Kaled.
I did forward the email to the ISP. The email didn't threaten any physical violence but it did have a lot of anger and profanity. I'd be surprised if the ISP does not take action, but I don't know if it rises to the level of something that would be actionable by the police. (I don't have any traceable personal info on the site or whois information.)
