Hi
I have uploaded a site using dreamweaver of about 10 pages. I changed the name of some of the pages. However the original old pages still come up in the search engines. Basically I want to removed these old pages from the web. I presume I need to do this using my FTP which is dreamweaver, but I can't see anywhere to remove old pages. I can add new pages but not remove old. Any ideas?
The site is hosted by a free provider with free webspace and they do not have a facility to remove (they recomend using a FTP), but I can't find the right feature in dreamweaver.
Any ideas how to do?

in the remote view in DW, select the file to delete, and press 'delete' :)

The engines will pick up the fact the pages no longer exisit, and drop them from the index.

You might also want to re-direct the old pages to the new. Additionally, not instead of.

When I click on remote view, I get a yellow folder symbol and a / sign, but no pages (ie the ones that are coming up in the search engines), does this mean that they have already been deleted? or am I doing something wrong?

What is exactly is the problem here?
Is it that the old pages are still listed in search engine results?
Can you click on the results and still view the old pages?

If the old pages no longer show when you click the links then it is simply a case of the old pages still being listed in search engines, they will soon dissappear, though it would be beneficial to redirect the old pages to the new ones (301 redirect I think, if im wrong, im sure someone else here can set you straight).
If you can still see the pages when clicking through via the search engine then perhaps you have not logged in to the correct directory on your server when using dreamweaver, though if you can still upload new pages that are accessible this seems unlikely.

The 'old' pages show up in the search engines, then when you click on the link, it brings up the 'old' page. As I understand, this means that the 'old' page is still being hosted by my free web server.
I presume that I must be doing something wrong in dreamwever. Or is ther any other way of deleting pages?
Thanks

Can you click into the yellow folder?
I can only guess you are not viewing the correct directory, maybe give the support team of your host a call or email.

When you click on the yellow folder, it doesn't do anything. I thought it may show you the files.

I'll keep trying.

Thanks for your help

If you right click on your site folder in Dreamweaver's file view and select "Synchronise" then choose "Put newer files to remote" and select the "Delete remote files not on local drive" check box, Dreamweaver should sort it out - any files which are not on your local machine should be deleted from the server.

Hi.
I've tried that syncronisation thing and get the message "No syncronisation is necessary", however when I use google, and then search, the info comes up in the search results, when i click on the link it brings up the very old page, which in theory should not be there anymore

Grrrrrrr, this is frustrating,

Any ideas

For what ever reason DW would not delete the original content.
Using other WW forums I downloaded Filezilla, a FTP free software, and used that to delete very simply.
Cheers
