Someone stored a adult website on my moms computers homepage. No matter what i tried it could not be removed. I tried going into tools removing and applying but it would not work. I even tried removing Internet Explorer and putting it back on and would still not be removed. Is there some other way to remove this, how do I remove it? Someone told me it might be in regidet. I never go there.:o shocked

If you have a system restore function like Win ME you can try to roll the registry back to a previous date.

you can also try running AdAware [lavasoft.nu] to see if that will remove it. IT does a registry scan for common spyware that sometimes will do what you are describing.

On IE you shoudl be able to change you homepage by going to start>settings>control pannel>internet options there will then be a console window with the offending site displayed at the top. delite this page and click type in your normal page(preferably my website) and click on apply.

Ohh by the way. was the site any good :)

One more thought if that doesnt work. Goto Google or yahoo or any site that has a link "click here to make us your homepage" (exept an adult site):) and try that . it might just work and allow you to do the process manualy to the site of your choice.

Look at the second post. Instead of MSN.com it should be the adult site in question.

>Someone told me it might be in regidet

It is. There are ActiveX scripts that do just this.

well this is my suggestion. Put your cat on the case and let it pee in it. The system is fried and your mum will never know... :)

The cat will only be traumatised for a short while. (normaly) :)

It's simply amazing what you can learn here.

Thanks Mack, I'll try that.

Never liked my mom's cat anyway.

Yea it's amazing how usefull cats can be in times of great need.

I will re-phrase...
"Then are usefull for blaming for things that are your fault"

I thought I better add that bit before i had the animal welfare people asking brett to track my ip address :)

Taking a guess that your Mum's PC might be a Windows 98 box... if so, go to RUN in the start menu and type in msconfig which will then launch the System Configuration Utility.

Click on the Startup tab and look for any processes that begin with regedit.

You might see something similar to the following:

regedit -s C:\Windows\sp.dll

If so, then almost certainly an ActiveX routine tagged your browser. The problem is that with each reboot, the bugger reloads the takeover script.

Most of the items listed in the Startup section of the System Config Utility will have familiar names or abbreviations. The paths are displayed as well, so it id not difficult to spot a supicious contender.

You will need to diable the routine that restablishes the "Home Page" each time Windows is rebooted... you can do this by "unchecking" the box next to the suspected process. This will prevent it from running after reboot.

Before rebooting, go back to Internet Explorer Tools and swith the homepage to whatever you wish.

Reboot, and check the results.

Hope this gives you something to work with! Best of luck!

You might even consider trying Opera (or Mozilla) as an alternative. I personally LOVE Opera for all of its conveniences... One that is very popular as well as useful is the built-in zoom feature. Check it out.
