Best route to take

I am currently thinking about undertaking the CIW Master CIW Designer course in order to improve my understanding of web design.

I have been using Frontpage for the past couple of years and mainly taught myself how to use it along with many books and a great deal of time, and the sites I produced were for myself and my own business.

However I am interested in taking this to another level and training to have a full understanding of web design so that I could offer web design to customers myself.

Does anyone have any views on whether this is the best route to take, has anyone done this course and can they share their thoughts?

It's my opinion that certifications only help ($) the certifier. I don't believe you'll learn anymore from one of these things than you'll learn by doing.

I just looked at the list of skills that are covered by this exam. Many of them were extremely basic (adding images to a web page), some of them were antiquated (frames), and most were geared towards working in the corporate environment (project management).

IMHO, save your money.
