Ok.If you have $1000 a month for SEO how to spend it

Hi guys in the process of developing a site for widgets. From what I have read it looks like 3 areas that seem best.

1-SEO..I have a few companies that seem to do this, but. Roughly $60-85 a hour Not sure 10-12 hours of seo monthly will effect my site. I want to compliment this money with my own efforts to help site performance. What can I do to help (content)? My goal is to have my site on 2 or 3 first pages of 3 to 4 keyword phrases. Not sure if that's realistic in a year. A search of my catogory usually shows 2 million searches.

2-This is a small budget is it even worth PPC....adwords or Overture?

3-affilates. I like the concept but my margins are modest, and I am also concerned that Google does not like affilates? is that currect?

Any help with this budget would be greatly appreciated.

Thats very true and is best idea anyone could mention, Ive found several SEO firms can only do what I can do and arent really worth the money.

However more pages, with carefull referal monitoring and tweaking for minor SEO will pay off time and time again.

Ive never really found PPC to pay that well in teh long run

Thanks guys...Ok my topic is widget related, but I have a whole area dedicated to articles. It is a commerical site. I guess my question is how do I convert the articles to sales.

get links from article pages to product pages.
probably get some design changes to make it look good.
you may want to make articles more visible on your website. having read the article, people may think that you know what you are selling and trust you more.
if the article section is just a section, they may not even notice it before they leave your site.
