Good idea to offer free webspace for gaming community?

Hi everybody,
Since I am an avid gamer, I was thinking of starting a gaming website where people can download demos, screenshots, movies, etc of the latest games (not all games, just a specific gaming genre). However, since I have my own dedicated server and can set my own limits, I was thinking about offering free webspace/email for gaming clans and squads as a way of generating more traffic and publicity. So, it would be something like www.#*$!xx.com/clan1

Does anyone have any experience in doing something similar? My server administrator said to be careful of spammers and the like. If you have done something similar, please let me know. I'd love to hear from those who are experienced in this. Thanks!

If you're not experienced with dealing with abuse then go ahead and wait on the gaming setup and work on a site and get in to some access logs, look up user agents, etc. If you can adapt to abuse on a normal setup without free accounts then at least you've got your 1st base covered in that regards. Wish I could help you beyond that. Apache can be effective but you have to know what you need before you ask however.
