A List Apart 4.0 - What do you think?

A site hopefully most of us have come across has a new style/layout. As a high profile site what good and critical points can be made?

I'll make one good and one critical point...

Good - I think the design is classy.
Critical - The site was not designed for 800x600.

Now just a side note, this site is for designers so I think in this particular case my critical point isn't as much of a facter as if their site was not intended for designers. My default resolution is 1024x786.

JAB: I love the new design, as well. Although I really had no qualms about the old design.

I'm a designer and have a few computers. One I use everday has a crappy monitor that only gets max of 800x600. I can't stand horizontal scrolling! Luckily they've put all the important content in viewable range and only the "extra stuff" is off to the side.

I can't believe that this of all sites has a design that doesn't accomodate 800x600! Aren't they always banging on about css and fluid page layouts?
