A BBC spokesman said the corporation was aiming to simulcast a channel permanently but would restrict it to UK viewers only.

The first thing that this makes me wonder is, will this service eventually go international, on a subscription basis? At the moment the BBC is funded largely by British licence payers, but this could pave the way for the content to be sold directly to more internet users abroad. In other words, not just cable or satellite subscribers.

I have to admit my first thought and action was to rent space on a UK server to mount a proxy pass through site with adsense on it ..

By the time "G" lets it go live ( "sand box" and all ) we'll see if it was worth it ..if not at least from where I am in Brittany I can then get some of the progs that otherwise I can't reach ...
( TV where I live...? ( and I'm fluent ).. ROTFALOL ..or it would be if I had an actual alternative via satellite..:-(( ( .we watch German Tv most of the time and listen ot BBC radio ) ..

Never know I might even pick up some of the expat business here too ...one can but hope ;)

I would however happily pay for an "international version" of the BBC license if ever one was proposed ..

<digression>Also the same ..if one day Sky stopped the ludicrous insistance on having a box hooked upto a UK phone line ..that way me and my son could watch cow and chicken etc and the rest of cartoon network ..the french service version ( canal satellite ) is incredibly badly translated ..they are still showing the flintstones FGS!..and as pay for veiw ( in spite of the fact that TNT progs are free in the "sky bouquet" as was the agreement with Ted Turner ..and the french version only gives you 4 hrs per day of what was/is a 24 hr channel ..plus it's wrapped around with crappily translated animal planet shows that have Olivia Newton John without wrinkles..thats how old they are ..aaargghh ..and anglia tv documentaries that I saw when I was a kid ..and I'm 49!) ..Oh how I miss BBC tv or any decent TV ( no DSL where I am ..so cant get in on the 'puter ) ..Imagine how bad tv here has to be that I should be missing sky ...I'd pay £10.00 per month just for cartoon network ..if I didn't have to have it connected to a bloody digibox UK phone line..even arte only rerun old Anglia stuff all summer ..and half the time in bloody black and white! ..yaaarghh< end ..for now of digression > /RANT
