Pay-Per-Performance website hosting

Hello there I'm new here and this is my first post.

I’m from Montreal Canada, so do not expect Shakespearian text since I’m mainly French-speaking :) even if English is widely spoken here.

I’m not sure if this is the right place to create this topic!

I'm developing a website hosting solution based on the pay-per-performance or pay-per-action model. The action would be a visit, a contact (lead) or a sale.

A website is instantly created with a contact form and an online store integrated upon customer subscription.

Customer can fix a daily budget. Based on that budget, a specific number of visits, contacts or sales are allowed per day. The higher the budget, the lower a visit/contact/sale will cost. When actions quota is reached, the web site will be locked automatically then unlocked the next day. To immediately unlock the web site without waiting until the next day, customer needs to either temporarily increase the daily budget or disable the automatic lock option.

You know all that this model (CPA) already exists, but applying it to web hosting, could it interest website owners, or they rather prefer paying a fixed amount per month?

I'd rather pay a fixed amount and have reliable service without gimmicks.

But paying 5˘ a visit when you get a web site including an online store might be very interesting

Not to me, but I'm different I suppose. I go for reliability over gimmicks. I don't want a free month, don't need to be submitted to search engines, etc.

I just want reliable hosting, good, knoweldgable tech support when I need it, and a fair price.

It would appeal mostly to new Webmasters, but I think the idea has a lot of potential.. First time I've ever heard of the idea.

It's an interesting idea but I can't imagine anyone wanting their site to be locked (though I understand the motivatoin). Think about a return customer or someone who wanted to check the site out again finding it locked ... that'll generate a lot of 'trust' ;)
Also I think you'll get a lot of accounts that really end up being a waste of sever space and customer service time for you (i.e. if they generate 5 cents a day but still email you 500 times per minute for tech support ;) )

On that note you may want to offer tech support levels based on the average spend per day for the past week or something. But even then you could just end up making all of these newbies mad and generate a lot of bad press.

What do you mean by reliable service? if you mean server up-time or availability I think this is a detail for me. I could host my application with a reliable hosting company so the service would be as reliable as the one you have. In addition, the web application is working very smoothly. It is a Java servlet that is already loaded into the memory so the time response is even better when we compare it to scripting languages.

Why do you think that only new webmasters would be interested? Note that the product is not intended for webmasters necessarily. Anyone can easily manage the web site since there is no design to make or create. At the time of the subscription, customer chooses a pre-built template ad then add content using a MS-Word like editor or uploading a word doc.

When a customer web site is locked, I think it is good news :) for the customer, and for me as well :). It means that the web site is getting traffic, and when we say more traffic it means more visitors, more sales, more leads…

In theory, the web site is not supposed to be locked at all. Because the application sends an email notification to customer when there is only few visit/contact/sale left so the customer can adjust the budget accordingly before the web site will be locked.

Guys I’m trying to get your feedbacks about the general idea not details please.

What do you think if it would become a ‘frightening’ affiliating and marketing machine? :)
