Register domain without contact information?

I am not asking this because I'm gonna set up a phising Web site or anything illegal, but is it (generally) possible to register a domain without specifiying any contact information? I would like to stay "dumb" anon for a certain Web site that I am making.

Then again, it's not that important. I am just asking out of curiosity.

Some registrars provide an anonymous proxy service, so that their information is listed instead of yours. GoDaddy does, and I think Register.com.

Otherwise, you might be able to get away with giving false information, but that's grounds for termination of the domain.

Ah. Yes. Guess I'll use my real name again. I've noticed that it's hidden for some whoises, though. Can you explain that?
